Camping in Cornwall Review
NAME : Ralph Stringer
HOLIDAY TYPE: Camping and Touring Holiday
DATES STAYED: Jan / 2017
This was our first stay at this wonderful site, centrally located in Cornwall within a short car journey to Perranporth / Newquay, Hayle / St. Ives, Falmouth, Penzance etc. (I would recommend taking the train from Camborne to St. Ives though; just over £15, inc. parking at the station, for a family of three adults and one child.) Greeted by a friendly receptionist, check in was effortless and we were soon off to our pitch with a comprehensive welcome pack. We particularly liked the size of the hedged pitches, offering some protection from the indifferent weather. The staff were very friendly and following a particularly stormy night were out checking whether any campers were in need of assistance.
All facilities were kept to high a standard of cleanliness and offered fridges and freezers, washing up facilities with plastic washing up drainers and washing up bowls, all for general use. A nice touch was the provision of rotary clothes lines, also for general use, right next to the toilet / shower facilities so you could hang your towel to dry on the way back to your tent.
The bar offers quite a range of local Devon and Cornwall beers and ciders, but the wine range was a little limited. The food was well cooked with quite a varied menu, although at busy times there was quite a wait. But hey, you’re in Cornwall… have another cider!
The dog walking area is a good size, but a few more water bowls dotted around the place, particularly close to the dog walking and bar areas would have been useful. Perhaps also a few dog tethering points close to the toilet / washing facilities wouldn’t go amiss. But these really are icing on the cake suggestions.
Thanks to all the staff for making us feel so welcome, but for us a special mention should go to Barry who seemed to work tirelessly maintaining and improving the facilities (the addition of wet suit dunk tanks was excellent) and running the bar and would always find the time to stop and have a chat.
All in all I would recommend this site and would definitely return.
